About Me
I have been running seminars, developing courses and writing in the area of personal development for about 20 years.
I first got interested in this field when I was much younger and I wrote down a list of all the things I was interested in learning about, taking part in or mastering during my life - from academic subjects such as history, science and literature, to travel, to adrenalin sports such as motorcycling and skydiving and so on.
I realised that this was more than any one person could probably do in a lifetime so I became interested in how one could learn and master subjects more quickly and easily and what other qualities it might be necessary to cultivate to ensure progress.
From asking these questions I realised that there were a number of different areas that it make sense to focus on. Being able to learn and absorb information much more quickly and easily was one. Being able to think more clearly was another. Developing certain psychological skills and qualities like courage, perseverance and mental strength would be necessary as would knowing and prioritising one’s goals and developing a plan to achieve them. In addition, being committed to maintaining high levels and health and fitness both physical and mental would be essential.
I realised that while it was possible to research and study many of these areas, many of the courses you could take were academic rather than practical which was not what I wanted. I was interested in what you could do from a practical perspective to develop and master these areas. Further, I came to appreciate that here were a wide variety of different areas each worthy of study in themselves and it would be useful to have them all in one place.
So I decided to develop my own courses - initially for myself - but then I discovered that many other people had similar interests. This has lead to the courses that I now run. They are designed to help you get the most out of life from a practical perspective.
Prior to working in this area I worked as a lawyer as well as for animal charities. I have Masters degrees in both law and philosophy including the philosophy of science. What both of these subject areas have in common is that they are relentlessly analytical, breaking down questions into their fundamental elements and not being tolerant of woolly thinking. I believe this background ensures that what I teach is effective and useful.
Among my extra-curricular interests are cycling, motorcycling. travelling, skydiving, playing music - primarily the guitar - and studying various academic subjects particularly psychology, the natural sciences, mathematics and philosophy. I am currently travelling the world while trying to develop and grow my personal development business, which makes life an interesting and ongoing challenge.
